WHAT CAN WE OFFER?
Our initial service is aimed at the standard paperback novel, printed in black and white with a full colour cover. Other types of books can be published but would need to be looked at on an individual basis.
Your book will be published with full ISBN registration which makes it available through standard bookstores and internet stores including Amazon. In addition the book will be advertised through the DSC Publications and New Writers UK website with a link to Amazon, and at any shows organised by New Writers UK.
The service offered will include the formatting and design of the book pack and its cover from available templates and provide you with an initial quantity of books from 100 copies upward.
Our prices will be set out as a fixed set up cost with a separate price for the actual book printing based on page count and other choices you might make about the finished book. This enables you to know the future cost of reprint copies and to fix a realistic retail price for your book. Remember if you wish to sell through any commercial outlet they will expect 35 to 55% discount off the retail price.
To be able to publish your book we will require it to be submitted to us as a typed manuscript (preferably as a Microsoft Word document) together with any additional requirements regarding dedications, introductions, specific formatting, indexing etc you may have.
We cannot provide any proof-reading service and will print from your manuscript including any errors that it may contain. We recommend, therefore, that any manuscript submitted is thoroughly proof-read prior to submission. Separate proof-reading services and guidance can be obtained through New Writers UK.
The time from submitting your manuscript to receiving the completed book will vary in every case but will usually be 1 and 3 months from start to finish. We wish to produce a quality book and therefore will take the time necessary to ensure that both of us are happy with the finished product. This will include providing you with proof copies of your book pack and cover before the final printing takes place.
THE PRINTING COST
This is the actual cost of paper and printing of both the book pack and a full colour cover, the cost of the ISBN, and the binding.
The price is based on the page count of your book being printed as a 145mm x 205mm (very slightly smaller than A5) book. Printing can be done on a smaller width paper which will increase the page count and your book printing cost.
As with many things, the more you order the cheaper the individual price of each book can become.
THE SET UP COST
Set Up – Our current set up cost is a one-off fee of £500.
Book Printing – Prices vary as to book length – examples are;
200 copies with 440 pages (A5) with a full colour laminated cover = £1002 [£5.01 each]
100 copies with 252 pages (A5) with full colour non laminated cover = £362 [£3.63 each]
No Vat is chargeable on any of our prices.
A reprint run of your book will be the actual cost of the printing plus £50 per 100 copies in administration charges. The administration charge will cover up to 10 amendments to your original manuscript, thereafter amendments are charged at £10 per 10 amendments.
PAYMENT
We will provide you with a specific quote for your book and a contract to sign if you wish to take up the service publishing your book. On return of the contract we require payment of the set up fee of £500.
At the point when we are ready to proceed with the print you will approve the proof copies and will pay half of your printing cost.
The final balance of the printing cost is due on delivery of your books.
SELLING YOUR BOOKS
Sales of your book will be your responsibility.
New Writers UK and DSC Publications will offer you distribution opportunities at any shows or festivals attended by New Writers UK and Collectors Comics while you remain a member of New Writers UK. Your books will be displayed for sale through the websites of both either as a link to Amazon for purchase or to notify you direct of any interested purchaser.
As the Publisher DSC Publications may occasionally receive orders for your book from trade suppliers such as Amazon, Bertrams or Gardners. Books supplied to such organisations will generally require a discount between 25% and 50% off the retail price. DSC Publications will retain 2 copies of any book published for the purposes of filling such orders. Upon receipt of payment DSC Publications will account to you for any money received less the cost of postage and a 50p per book handling charge.
Any other books sold through DSC Publications will be subject to 50p handling charge.
This is the time and costs required by ourselves to take your typed manuscript and cover ideas and convert them in to the necessary format for printing. It also includes our incidental expenses such as postage, proof copy printing, registration with ISBN and legal book deposit with the British Library.
Cover design will be initially offered from template design, however, any images specifically required may be supplied provided copyright it held by yourself or the image is in the pubic domain. Providing your own cover design is possible and will be discussed on an individual basis.
